Knee Pain Shouldn't Slow Your Life Down

From weekend athletes to active retirees, we've treated thousands of knee conditions, and we'll find the right answer for yours.

The knee is the most frequently injured joint in the body, and also one of the most treatable. Whether your pain came on suddenly after an injury or has been building for years, South Hills Orthopaedics has the specialists and the tools to diagnose it accurately and treat it effectively.

SOUND FAMILIAR?

CONDITIONS WE TREAT

ACL, PCL, MCL & LCL Tears

The ligaments that stabilize your knee are among the most commonly injured structures in sports and everyday life. We treat the full spectrum, from partial sprains to complete tears requiring reconstruction.

Meniscus Tears

The menisci are the shock-absorbing cartilage pads in your knee. Tears can occur from a single injury (common in younger, active patients) or gradually through wear and tear. Not all meniscus tears require surgery, we’ll help you understand exactly what yours needs.

Knee Arthritis (Osteoarthritis)

Arthritis is not a sentence to live in pain. We offer a full continuum of care, from physical therapy and injections to PRP and, when the time is right, partial or total knee replacement. Many of our arthritis patients significantly delay or avoid surgery with the right non-surgical plan.

Patellar Tendinitis & Soft Tissue Conditions

Patellar tendinitis (“jumper’s knee”), patellar tracking problems, IT band syndrome, Baker’s cysts, and bursitis are all conditions that respond well to targeted treatment.

Fractures & Dislocations

Kneecap (patella) fractures and dislocations require prompt, expert evaluation. Our team provides both emergency and elective fracture care.

CONSERVATIVE TREATMENTS

Corticosteroid Injections
Powerful anti-inflammatory injections that reduce swelling and pain, often providing significant relief for arthritis and soft tissue conditions.
Hyaluronic Acid (Viscosupplementation)
Lubricating injections that restore cushioning in arthritic knees and are well-tolerated by most patients.
Bracing & Activity Modification
Custom and off-the-shelf bracing plus practical guidance on returning to activity safely.
PRP Therapy
Concentrated healing factors from your own blood to stimulate tissue repair, particularly effective for mild-to-moderate arthritis and certain tendon conditions.
Physical Therapy
Targeted strengthening and mobility programs, designed and supervised by our in-house licensed therapists, can resolve many knee conditions without any procedure at all.

SURGICAL OPTIONS

Knee Arthroscopy
Minimally invasive procedure to diagnose and treat internal knee problems, meniscus tears, loose bodies, and cartilage damage. Most patients go home the same day.
ACL Reconstruction
Restores knee stability following ACL tears using graft tissue, with a carefully supervised rehabilitation program for full return to activity.
Partial Knee Replacement (Unicompartmental)
When arthritis affects only one area of the knee, a partial replacement preserves more of your natural joint while delivering excellent pain relief and function.
Total Knee Replacement
For end-stage arthritis when other options have been exhausted, one of the most reliably successful procedures in all of medicine. Our surgeons focus on getting you back to a full, active life.
Fracture Repair & Ligament Reconstruction
Comprehensive trauma and reconstruction services for complex knee injuries.

FAQ

The vast majority of knee conditions (even serious ones like meniscus tears and moderate arthritis) can be managed without surgery, at least initially. Surgery becomes appropriate when conservative treatment hasn’t worked, when there is structural instability that poses ongoing injury risk, or when the extent of damage is not compatible with non-surgical healing.

Most patients are walking with assistance within 24 hours of surgery and return to light daily activities within 3–6 weeks. Full recovery, including return to recreational activities, typically takes 3–6 months. Our physical therapy team is involved from day one to maximize your recovery.

Yes, many patients experience significant improvement in pain and function through physical therapy, weight management, activity modification, and injection therapies. While arthritis is a progressive condition, many patients go years or decades without needing replacement.

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy is a regenerative treatment that concentrates healing growth factors from your own blood. It is typically not covered by standard insurance plans and is considered an out-of-pocket elective treatment. We’ll discuss cost and expected outcomes in detail before recommending it.

In most cases, no. Many insurance plans allow you to self-refer to an orthopedic specialist. Call our office and we can confirm your specific coverage.
